I’m Hans. I’m married to Courtney, and together we are raising three boys. I’m a pastor by day, I moonlight as a leadership and executive coach, and I write here while continuing a memoir called You Talk Too Much about my failures as a young (and then old) husband.

I write about the relationships that shape us—with God, friends, family, church, and work. I’m confident we get there, though rarely as planned.

Why Here? Why Now?

I have maintained two areas of interest over the years: (1) making fun of how absurd my life appears and (2) sharing my growing thoughts on how to operate in life’s varied circumstances with all the people we’ve gotten to know along the way. Often, these worlds intersect closely and consistently. I try to find that intersection each time I post. And I do believe that there’s a decent chance you’ll get where you’re headed, even if the road is quite circuitous.

At times, Courtney joins, but often she’s behind the scenes, editing. She edits almost anything you see here. We’re a good team. If you’re lucky, she makes a guest appearance or even provides some audio commentary.
